Wero for WordPress: The new European payment method for your webshop
One payment method for all of Europe. Fast, secure, and directly through the bank. That is Wero.
Wero was developed by EPI in collaboration with European banks. It serves as an independent, secure, and fast alternative to, among others, American credit card companies.
Wero is being introduced across Europe in stages, and banks and payment providers will begin supporting Wero as soon as it becomes available. With Pronamic Pay, you can easily connect Wero to 11 WordPress plugins, including WooCommerce, Gravity Forms and Contact Form 7.
Payment providers with Wero support
Currently, Wero is supported in the Netherlands as ‘iDEAL | Wero’ by all payment providers. As soon as Wero becomes available as an e-commerce payment method, they will offer it as a separate payment option.

Easily connect Wero with
Wero for WooCommerce
Is your webshop running on WooCommerce and do you want to be ready for the future? With the Pronamic Pay plugin, you will soon be able to add Wero to your checkout page effortlessly. You don’t need to be a technical expert or dive deep into code. As soon as your payment provider activates Wero, we will ensure the method is immediately visible and available within your WordPress environment. This makes it easy to add this new European payment option to your checkout.
The future of Wero and WooCommerce
EPI has ambitious plans for Wero. It is not a simple replacement for iDEAL. While it is based on the technology and platform behind iDEAL, it is designed to be much more extensive. For WooCommerce entrepreneurs, this means that payments will soon become much more than just a transaction. Over the coming years, new features will be rolled out step-by-step. These include:
Instant payments for Europe
While iDEAL is limited to the Netherlands, Wero turns Europe into a single market. A customer from Germany or Belgium will soon pay just as easily and quickly as a customer from the Netherlands.
Wero Wallet-integration
Consumers can store their preferences and address details in their own banking app (the Wero wallet). This paves the way for a faster checkout experience in your WooCommerce shop, as data won’t need to be re-entered repeatedly.
Subscriptions, recurring payments & BNPL
Features for ‘Recurring Payments’ and ‘Buy-now-pay-later’ are currently in development. This makes Wero a compelling European alternative to direct debits or credit card subscriptions.
Wero for Gravity Forms
Wero will also soon be an available payment method within Pronamic Pay for Gravity Forms. Whether it concerns a one-time payment or a registration, you can link the payment method directly to your form via our plugin. As soon as the payment provider offers support for Wero, Pronamic Pay will recognize it, and you will be able to select the method in the payment settings of your form.
Frequently asked questions
As Wero is still in full development, online payments are not yet offered as a standalone service. Currently, the co-branding ‘iDEAL | Wero’ is used in the Netherlands. If you are already processing iDEAL payments, you are already receiving ‘iDEAL | Wero’ transactions.
Wero is expected to be introduced in the Netherlands in 2026. It will be announced as the successor to iDEAL.
Currently, Wero is available in Germany, Belgium, and France. Users can send and receive money between bank accounts that support Wero. New features will soon be added, allowing for online payments and subscriptions, both online and offline. Users in the Netherlands are expected to be able to use these features sometime in 2026/2027.
For the time being, the costs are the same as an iDEAL payment. The actual costs depend on the contract you have with your payment service provider.
Wero is expected to be introduced in the Netherlands in 2026. At that time, it will be announced as the definitive successor to iDEAL.
Wero is already available in Belgium, France, and Germany. The Netherlands and Luxembourg will follow soon, with other countries to be added at a later stage.
