Recurring payments with Restrict Content Pro

This guide describes how to use recurring payments with Restrict Content Pro via the Pronamic Pay plugin. It assumes that a working configuration for the payment provider has already been set up in WordPress. If no configuration has been created under Pay » Configurations yet, please first consult Pronamic Pay – Getting Started.

Requirements and limitations

To use recurring payments with Restrict Content Pro, the following points are important:

• Recurring payments are only possible with the payment provider Mollie.
• Initiating a subscription is possible with the following payment methods:
  • Credit card
  • Direct debit (authorization via Bancontact)
  • Direct debit (authorization via iDEAL)
  • Direct debit (authorization via Sofort)

When using direct debit payment methods, the SEPA direct debit payment method must also be activated in your Mollie dashboard.

Creating a Restrict Content Pro Subscription

1. Go to your WordPress dashboard » Restrict » Subscription Levels.
2. Create a new subscription with an appropriate name and description.
3. If desired, set an access level for the subscription.
4. In the ‘Duration’ field, specify the subscription’s expiration period.
5. Enter the price for the subscription.
6. Set the subscription status to ‘Active’; only active subscriptions are available to visitors.
7. Select the desired user role that will be assigned to the visitor after they subscribe.
8. Add the subscription by saving the settings.

Please note: If the Mollie configuration is set to ‘Test’ mode, subsequent payments for the “Direct debit (authorization via …)” payment methods will never reach the ‘Completed’ status and will always remain ‘Pending’. Therefore, for testing, we recommend using the credit card payment method.

Trial Period

To process recurring payments, an initial payment must always be made for a membership. Therefore, to offer a free trial period for a membership, it is necessary to set a minimum sign-up fee of €0.01. This amount is charged immediately for new memberships. Without a sign-up fee, recurring payments cannot be processed in conjunction with a free trial period.

Viewing subscriptions and payments

All subscriptions created via our plugin can be viewed in your WordPress dashboard under Pay » Subscriptions. All payments – including subsequent payments – can be viewed in your WordPress dashboard under Pay » Payments. In this overview, payments related to a subscription will have an additional icon:

• A blue repeat icon for initial payments started by users.
• A gray repeat icon for subsequent payments that were automatically created.

When viewing a subscription, all payments made for that specific subscription are also displayed. If there are any issues with a payment, the payment can be viewed, and the ‘Log’ section may provide an explanation for the payment’s status.
