Starting January 29, the iDEAL logo in your WooCommerce shop will look different. Don’t worry, this is intentional. It is the first step in the migration from iDEAL to Wero, the new European payment standard. We’ll explain exactly what this means for you.
What is happening?
In 2023, iDEAL was acquired by the European Payments Initiative (EPI) with the goal of launching a single European payment method: Wero. EPI took over iDEAL from Currence, the organization that had owned the Dutch payment system until then. Currence, in turn, was owned by three major Dutch banks: ABN AMRO, ING, and Rabobank.
As a result of this acquisition, these Dutch banks have now become shareholders in EPI. The parties involved have decided to fully replace iDEAL with Wero over time. On January 29, 2026, the first visible step will be taken in webshop checkouts with the introduction of iDEAL | Wero co-branding. The goal is to complete the full migration by 2027, after which we will only use Wero. The advantage? Customers from countries like Germany, France, and Belgium will be able to pay just as easily as we are used to with iDEAL in the Netherlands.
What does this mean for your WooCommerce shop?
Are you using the Pronamic Pay plugin? If so, the plugin automatically ensures that the iDEAL logo is updated to the co-branded iDEAL | Wero logo in your WooCommerce checkout (unless you have manually entered a ‘Custom icon URL’). The integrations with payment providers such as Mollie, Buckaroo, Pay.nl, or Rabobank remain unchanged and stable. You don’t need to overhaul your entire checkout.
However, if you have manually added or modified iDEAL logos elsewhere on your site, you will need to update them yourself. For example, you might have an iDEAL logo in the footer of your website. You can download the official logo from the iDEAL.nl website, or consult the Pronamic Pay logo library at https://github.com/pronamic/wp-pay-logos/. This library is available via Composer or Node.js package managers, as well as through CDNs like jsDelivr or UNPKG:

Practical checklist
To ensure the visual changes are correctly implemented, you can follow these steps:
- Check your visuals: Review your webshop for static iDEAL logos (such as in footers or banners). Replace these with the official iDEAL | Wero logo.
- Update your plugins: Ensure your Pronamic Pay plugin is up to date. This guarantees you are using the most current connection with your payment providers.
- Adjust the description: The description of the payment method is not automatically updated. You can manually change “iDEAL” to “iDEAL | Wero” in your settings.
- Inform your customers: Consider adding a short note to your FAQ about the logo change to reassure your customers.
Absolutely! iDEAL and Wero are now connected. You can recognize this by the combined logo in our checkout. The process remains exactly as you are used to: secure, fast, and directly through your own bank.
The transition from iDEAL to iDEAL | Wero begins on January 29, 2026, and must be completed by March 31, 2026. Therefore, all iDEAL logos must be replaced by March 31 at the latest.
